Funky Town

Funky Town
About: FUNKY TOWN “THEN HE WOULDN’T BE MY BOYFRIEND” Funky Town has a short answer to a long question about male jealousy. What if her boyfriend objected to her work? “Then he wouldn’t be my boyfriend.” Well, that settles one part of the compatibility questionnaire. At her RDX casting, she introduced herself as Nastya. She was 24 at the time, and apologizing for her career choice clearly wasn’t on her agenda. She came to a new production company looking for new stories. Curiosity, a chance to try something different, a different crew. Perfectly good reasons to step onto a new set. ROMANCE DOESN’T COME WITH VETO POWER Nastya was single when we met her. But the hypothetical boyfriend question quickly established one thing: dating her probably shouldn’t begin with a plan to change her. Her answer doesn’t come with a lengthy checklist of requirements for a man. She draws one specific line: if he can’t accept her profession, they won’t be a couple. Wedding plans, vacations together, and picking out kitchen cabinets can wait. Blunt? Sure. But think of the time that saves on a first date. HEY, CLASSMATES Some people dread school reunions. Who became successful? Who makes what? And what exactly are you supposed to say about yourself over dinner? For Nastya, at least the question of keeping her career a secret is settled. She says her former school and college classmates know about her work. That doesn’t give us license to invent glowing reviews on their behalf. But she talks about it casually and readily sends a hello to people from her past. No dramatic confession required. There’s a certain freedom in not having to prepare a different version of your life for every social circle. From what Nastya tells us, her profession isn’t something she hides from the people she grew up with. NEW STORIES, NO GRAND PROMISES Why did Funky Town come to RDX? In her own words, to try working with a new production company and explore new stories. She already has friends and acquaintances in the industry. What she didn’t give us was a precise career timeline, a dazzling debut story, or a master plan for world domination. Fair enough. Every career move doesn’t need an origin myth. Sometimes you want to work with different people and see what happens. That’s enough to get started. And the interest was mutual: by the end of the casting, the RDX team was already discussing future shoots. YOU DON’T HAVE TO BE THE LOUDEST PERSON IN THE ROOM Funky Town keeps her answers brief. Reading that as shyness would be a little premature, though: some of our questions came while she was filming an adult scene. Hardly the ideal setting for an extended reflection on her life. Still, she made the essentials clear. She’s interested in new projects. People from her past know what she does. And a potential partner should understand who she is before getting into a relationship with her. Together, those details suggest someone who doesn’t spend much time justifying her decisions. After all, “this works for me” doesn’t require a keynote speech. *Based on Funky Town’s interview during her RDX casting.
